Tea ceremony at the Expo 2025 Austria Pavilion
for the Governor of Lower Austria
May 12, 2025
Reviving Old Imari Project at Loosdorf Castle, Austria(ROIP Japan) hosted a tea ceremony at the Austria Pavilion of the Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan to welcome Governor Johanna Mikl-Leitner of Lower Austria and her delegation. The event was organized at the request of the Austria Pavilion.
In addition to ROIP members who traveled from Tokyo, Ms. Maryu Sugita, the fifth generation of the Seikanji Kiln in Kyoto, also cooperated in the tea ceremony, and Governor Mikl-Leitner and the inspection team from the state enjoyed a cup of tea imbued with the spirit of friendship and goodwill between Japan and Austria.
Lower Austria is the largest federal state in northeastern Austria, and Loosdorf Castle is also located in this state.
The Loosdorf Castle Old Imari Shards Collection is well known to Governor and other officials from the state, and when Representative Hoshina spoke about the activities of the Reviving Old Imari Project at Loosdorf Castle, Austria (ROIP), they were visibly moved and asked enthusiastic questions about the project.
Incidentally, the restaurant on the third floor of the Austrian Pavilion, where the event was held, features a replica of the Osaka map screen discovered at Eggenberg Castle in Graz, Austria. The screen vividly depicts the Osaka Castle area during the Toyotomi period and, like the Loosdorf Castle Old Imari Shards Collection, is an important historical heritage linking Austria and Japan that survived the ravages of World War II.
During the exhibition period from April 13 to October 13, 2025, a 30-second video introducing the ROIP project will be looped on the large main screen inside the pavilion. When you visit, please stop by the Austrian Pavilion and check out the ROIP exhibition.
